Ciate Velvet Manicure Berry Poncho

I know there has been a small uproar with Ciate stealing other bloggers ideas like using seed beads for "caviar manicures" and flocking powder for this "velvet manicure" kit. My sister sent this kit to me as a gift, I'm not sure I would have purchased it otherwise. It is interesting and I have never tried using flocking powder for a manicure, or Ciate polish, before so I figured I would give it a go with this!

The color included with this is kit is Cabaret, a vampy, berry creme color
All fingers are 3 coats of Cabaret with no top coat and a base coat of Seche Clear. This is the only polish I own from Ciate and I'm not sure if the formula of it is standard for them but, the formula of this was pretty bad. After 2 thin coats, the color was splotchy and not "level". For the 3rd coat I did a thicker coat than normal and still experienced some unevenness and it took a while for it to dry completely.
The process of applying the "velvet" was pretty messy!
Even after using the "little black brush" included there was still "velvet" hanging around the side of nails and cuticles. I wasn't too sure what would happen if I used acetone or water to clean them up so, I just let them be.
While, I did manage to cover most of my nails with "velvet", they still ended not fully covered. I think I might have had better coverage if I dunked my nails in the jar of "velvet" rather than sprinkle it on. Overall, I'm underwhelmed with this kit. The color of Cabaret is very pretty but the formula isn't anything amazing.

Find Ciate Velvet Manicure kits at Sephora in stores and online here. You can also purchase them through Ciate's website here though, they are currently out of stock. Ciate is on Facebook here
