Salon Perfect Holographic Collection vs. China Glaze Hologlam Collection

Ok super later than I expected, but hey I finally got this post done so let's be happy for that! :P

A quick non-light tent shot with flash to show off the holos in both polishes. I know a lot of people thought these weren't holographic due to my light tent. They are, just not a crazy strong holo and my light tent doesn't play well with holos. :/

So there you have it! :) The only colors that are not dupes for any colors in the Hologlam line are Spot Light (not included in this post because nothing came close to it) and Green Screen. The formula and finish on them all are exactly the same. Salon Perfect and China Glaze are made by the same company, with the Salon Perfect formula lacking the hardners found in the China Glaze formula. The Salon Perfect ones are cheaper at $5.98, than their China Glaze dupes which retailed for $14 a bottle.

Fing'rs Get Spotted

Happy Monday everyone! Sorry I've been slacking on posting regularly. I cut my nails down even more on Thursday after my post to even them out..but ended up taking them down a lot more than I meant to. >_< So if I'm not posting everyday that is the reasoning. Also I decided to go sans bottle in these photos to try to hide my shortness and the unevenness (yeah I didn't even even them out, just filed like a mad woman haha). Anywho, I picked up this kit at Walmart the other day from the new Fing'rs display. If you haven't seen the new Fing'rs display "Heart 2 Art", I uploaded some pictures to album you can check out here. There is a lot of great stuff!

The two colors included in this set don't have names >_< The first one is a basic bright blue. I used 2 coats and no top coat for these photos.

No problem with application, but as a warning I did get some staining on my cuticles during clean up. I would recommend a good base coat for this one just in case. ;)

 The second polish in this set is a bright pink with orange shimmer. All nails are 2 coats and no top coat.

Again problem free formula, like the blue polish. I apologize that my camera hates bright pinks. :/ The color is really pretty, but not as neon as my photos like to show and the shimmer is more noticeable in person.

Before applying Get Spotted I sponged some of the blue polish over the pink with an eyeshadow applicator. 

Get Spotted is an effect top coat that gives off an oil spot look. I used 1 very thin coat over the above manicure.

While I don't own OPI Black Spotted (it was a European exclusive released with their The Amazing New Spiderman collection in Summer 2012) I would call this a dead on dupe. Application is very tricky and you need to only use a very, very, very thin coat and make sure your polish is 100% dry. It does take some trial and error to get smaller spots and like the box says a thicker coat will give you less and larger spots. Nevertheless I love the look and am also happy I didn't fork over the extra money to grab the OPI version through a custom purchase. ;)

Salon Perfect Neon Collision Swatches

Hi everyone! I have the new collection from Salon Perfect called Neon Collision to show you today. 

For all the manicures in this post I used 3 coats of the polish followed by a coat of Gelous and a coat of Seche Vite.

Small note: My camera liked picking up the neon orange as more pink than it is in real life. :/ Sorry!

Bang is a mixture of orange and yellow micro matte glitter. 

Exploded has a mixture of red-orange and yellow micro matte glitter.

Jolt contains yellow and orange micro matte glitter.

Kaboom has a turquoise and yellow micro matte glitter.

If you are wondering how Kaboom compares to Floam here you go! The blue in Floam is just a tad darker than Kaboom, but I would say not a big enough difference to "need" both. ;)

Shocked is a combination of hot pink and blue micro matte glitter.

Zapped has a mixture of yellow and turquoise matte micro glitter.

While I don't own Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard anymore, I do have a swatch from my nail wheels to compare it to Zapped and Kaboom. No dupes here though!

Once I got my hands on Exploded, I decided to have some fun with it and Jolt and Bang. ;)

If you have Floam, formula is similar: a little on the thick side, but you can "dab" in extra glitter where needed. To make them completely smooth you will need something like the Gelous and top coat combo I used or a few coats of top coat. ;)

Julep Harper, Ivy & Vivien + Dupes

Funny story on how I received Julep December 2012 Maven box: I completely forgot to cancel before it was too late! I was happy nonetheless, when I saw the polishes that were on there way to me. After they showed up I had an eery feeling I own 2 of the 3 colors, Harper and Ivy, and I think I was right. ;)

Julep Harper is described as a full-coverage opalescent mermaid blue multi-dimensional glitter. All nails are 3 coats with a top coat of Seche Vite.

I loved this color upon first seeing pictures, but I knew as soon as I saw it in person what it's dupe would be. Regardless, I do love this color and Julep's formula, though a tad thick, is nice. 

Wet n Wild Happy Holidaze! is a perfect dupe for Julep Harper with a few small differences. Happy Holidaze is much thinner and shearer, it took 5 coats of Happy Holidaze! compared to 3 of Harper. Even at 5 coats, Harper had more glitter on each nail than Happy Holidaze! and Harper had a quicker dry time despite Happy Holidaze! supposedly being a quick dry polish. If you don't mind having to apply more coats Happy Holidaze! is a better value at $1.99 for .46 fl. oz/ 13.5mL, while Harper is .27 fl. oz/ 8 mL for normally $14. Personally, I like formula of Julep better even if it is more expensive.

Julep Ivy is a cobalt blue shimmer with pink/purple duochrome. I used coats 4 coats with top coat of Seche Vite.

I always wish duochromes looked the same way on the nail as they do in the bottle and with this polish it's the same case. It is a beautiful color on the nail, it could be stunning if it had the same duochrome the bottle holds though. :/

It took me a little while to figure out what polish duped Ivy. I knew I had one, it was just finally coming across Pure Ice Getting Gorgeous in my collection. Getting Gorgeous is a tad bit darker than Ivy, but my photos show the difference more than it appears in real life. Formula and color wise, Getting Gorgeous wins hands down. It only took 3 coats compared to 4 coats of Ivy and while Ivy wasn't terribly thin, it was noticeable thinner than Getting Gorgeous. Price and bottle size, Getting Gorgeous wins again. Ivy is normally priced at $14 for .27 fl. oz/ 8 mL versus Getting Gorgeous at $1.97 for .5 fl. oz/ 15 mL. My choice is probably pretty obvious: Getting Gorgeous!

Julep Vivien has a shimmery gold and silver base with larger gold hexagonal glitter. All nails are 3 coats with a top coat of Seche Vite.

I haven't found any polish to dupe this one, so I guess my Julep Maven December box wasn't a total bust. ;)Formula was a bit thick , but workable. This color gives off a champagne vibe, as described my Julep, I'm just not sure if I love it.
